This week we brought maths and art together to create 3-D projections using isometric paper.
Using specially marked paper, it is possible to use vertical lines and horizontal lines (at a 30 degree angle) to add height, width and depth to a shape.
This week, Rm 2 students used their new skills to use an isometric alphabet to create their own name tags.
Check out the work of Jarreka, Nina, Sione, Isaiah, Kauri, Nevaeh, Caleb and Valeli!
It is definitely like maths and art at the same time! Well done everyone. Have you had a look at fibonacci number art? It is another great way to combine maths and art! You can learn about a pattern of addition as well as create interesting shape patterns.
ReplyDeleteThe kind of lettering you are creating with your isometric drawing can be done on a computer, but before we had computer graphics, street signage used to be made this way for buildings and people would use the same careful measuring as you have done, but on a really large scale (BIG!) and they would fill the outlines they drew with paint. There are lettering artists who still preserve this way of working because it is unique in a time when we rely on signs that are printed from computer programmes and cut out using other computer-based tools!
Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
