Lunch Box Heroes - Healthy Eating - KAURI and CALEB

Congratulations to Kauri and Caleb for being one of this week's Lunch Box Heroes. Every week, there are 10 winners - their names are picked out by our prefects at our school assembly to celebrate students who had brought a healthy lunch to school during the week.

Enjoy eating your fresh fruit!

Memories - 2020 Year 8 Leadership Camp , Thames

Just in case you missed PENN today, check out the movie below for highlights from the Year 8 Leadership Camp that took place in the first week of August at the start of Term 3.

The Kauaeranga Valley Christian Camp hosted Pt England School for 3 days and 2 nights. We appreciate how lucky we were to get to camp this year - 4 days after we got back, the Auckland region was put into Lockdown 2.0 at Level 3.

Here are special memories of what they got up to - trying out new activities, making new friends and stepping out of their comfort zones! Enjoy!

IN THE NEWS... Current Events with Jarreka, Simon and Caleb

Starting this week, we are going to take a look at different news items that took place locally (around Auckland), nationally (somewhere in Aotearoa/New Zealand) and internationally (everywhere else!). We want to build our knowledge of events that are happening outside our front door of where we live here in Glen Innes!

Check out JARREKA's response to our first story about a critically ill black turtle that washed up on to a local Auckland beach.

Read SIMON's thoughts about how cotton was used to track down German wasps causing problems on the Chatham Islands.

Find out why CALEB was fascinated with an ancient coin.

3-D Lettering using isometric paper!

This week we brought maths and art together to create  3-D projections using isometric paper.

Using specially marked paper, it is possible to use vertical lines and horizontal lines (at a 30 degree angle) to add height, width and depth to a shape.

This week, Rm 2 students used their new skills to use an isometric alphabet to create their own name tags.

Check out the work of Jarreka, Nina, Sione, Isaiah, Kauri, Nevaeh,  Caleb and Valeli!

Blog of the Week: KING, CALEB - DATA DETECTIVES:Which graph is best?

Room 2's Maths class were practising being DATA DETECTIVES by helping Mr Vogt to figure out when would be the best time to plant shrubs by checking the weather forecast for the next week.

Check out King and Caleb's explanation and their decisions about which graph to use to support their answers. Which graph do YOU think best shows the temperature data?

This our graph bar and line graph that we used to answer a question about Mr Vogt and his precious little Shrubs. Over the week, we had to pick the best days to plant his delicate shrubs, it needed to be above 20 degrees celsius in the day, and it needed to be not hotter than 11 degrees celsius overnight. He is not available on the weekends. Here is our bar chart, If it goes over 20 it good and if it’s 11 degrees or lower it is good. And if it goes lower than 20 or higher than 11, it’s not good.

The next graph we did was the line graph. Another person in our class did a line graph, and it ended up pretty good. So we decided to try it out ourselves, and, as you can see, it worked out amazing. It shows the same information as the bar graph, but it shows the numbers more clearly. Here is our Line Graph.
