IN THE NEWS... Current Events with Jarreka, Simon and Caleb

Starting this week, we are going to take a look at different news items that took place locally (around Auckland), nationally (somewhere in Aotearoa/New Zealand) and internationally (everywhere else!). We want to build our knowledge of events that are happening outside our front door of where we live here in Glen Innes!

Check out JARREKA's response to our first story about a critically ill black turtle that washed up on to a local Auckland beach.

Read SIMON's thoughts about how cotton was used to track down German wasps causing problems on the Chatham Islands.

Find out why CALEB was fascinated with an ancient coin.

3-D Lettering using isometric paper!

This week we brought maths and art together to create  3-D projections using isometric paper.

Using specially marked paper, it is possible to use vertical lines and horizontal lines (at a 30 degree angle) to add height, width and depth to a shape.

This week, Rm 2 students used their new skills to use an isometric alphabet to create their own name tags.

Check out the work of Jarreka, Nina, Sione, Isaiah, Kauri, Nevaeh,  Caleb and Valeli!

TAHA TINANA - Healthy Body - Play Mitimiti/Matimati - JARREKA

Jarreka has a new TAHA Challenge for us today to strengthen our TAHA TINANA to build a healthy body.

Challenge: Play the traditional Māori game, Matimati or Mitimiti with a buddy from your bubble

This game was used to train toa (warriors). It helped them to 'read' their enemies moves and evade and disguise their attacking moves.

See how quickly you can move your body so you don't get tapped! See if you can trick your partner to move in the wrong direction!

Level 1 - Tap your partner's shoulder
Level 2 - Tap your partner's shoulder or waist
Level 3 - Tap your partner's shoulder, waist or knees

Have a go at building your TAHA TINANA powers today playing Matimati (or Mitimiti).
