Matariki Celebrations 2020

Today our whole school celebrated Matariki, the Maori New Year. We started with a school assembly. Students from Room 2 were part of the performances - John and Sione on guitar and Nevaeh and Nina as part of the choir singing the Matariki song from Rahera Davies.

From L to R: Pisirina, John, Nevaeh, Kitione, Nina, John, Eternity and Sione

After assembly we split into different groups across the school - in Room 2 with the help of Miss Vili, our group used paper, glue, wool and cardboard to make star cards to represent Matariki and her six daughters, Tupu-ā-nuku, Tupu-ā-rangi, Waipunarangi, Waitī and Waitā, and Ururangi.

Samoan Language Week 2019

"Lalaga le si'osi'omaga mo se lumana'i manuia
Weave an environment for a better future."

This is the theme for Samoan Language Week in 2019. In Team 5 we have enjoyed learning new words and phrases we can use everyday like "tulou" - an expression to use to excuse yourself if your movements are going to obstruct the view of others.

Check out some highlights from today's Samoan Language Week assembly.

Fa'afetai ma ia manuia tele le toe vaiaso.

Karakia, Mihi - Sabrina shows us how!

Team 5 starts every school day with an assembly for all Year 7 & Year 8 students and teachers. Each class takes turns to run the assembly. Two students lead the mihi and karakia and the homeroom teacher delivers the notices.

Every Wednesday, students from Room 2 take their turn.

Do you need to practice?

Well, Sabrina, a Year 8 student/prefect from Room 2,  has recorded the karakia and mihi to help you out! She hasd done an awesome job - Ka mau te wehi Sabrina!
