Maths - Measuring Up!

Check out today's learning in Maths from Paschal:

For today's task we had to measure the two line's and find out which line was longer and found out that they were the same length. Then  we had to measure five other objects which were the door frame, door latch, number two sign, width of the desk and our hand span.

Visit Paschal's blog and leave a comment about his measuring skills.

Maths - Measuring Up/In Training - MADISON

This week Room 2 Maths class investigated how to measure length and distance. Check out Maddy's learning and leave a comment on her blog.

MEASURING UP - Blog Link

Today we were given to tasks, for the first task we had to find out which line was longer and which line was shorter. For the next task we had to find out the width from the top of a desk. Then the height of the door latch. Next the length of the number two sign, 4th the height of the door frame. Lastly our hand span.

IN TRAINING - Blog Link

For this task I had to find out, how many metres would Kauri run. If he ran 3 laps, and how many laps will
Kauri need to run to complete a distance of 4km. Then for question 3 we had to plan a daily running schedule for Kauri fro one month. How many laps will he need to run each day to hit the target of 7 km each week. We had to write our answers on a piece of paper.

3-D Lettering using isometric paper!

This week we brought maths and art together to create  3-D projections using isometric paper.

Using specially marked paper, it is possible to use vertical lines and horizontal lines (at a 30 degree angle) to add height, width and depth to a shape.

This week, Rm 2 students used their new skills to use an isometric alphabet to create their own name tags.

Check out the work of Jarreka, Nina, Sione, Isaiah, Kauri, Nevaeh,  Caleb and Valeli!

Blogger of the Week: SONNIA - Great group work in Maths

This week in Math's, Sonnia had fun competing against her classmates - working in a group, she had to try and find as many numbers as possible between 1 and 100. Each group had 3 rounds to improve their score. Each round was 3 minutes long.

Afterwards, all the groups had to think about all the things they did that helped them to work well together. Check out this poster by Sonnia to share tips on what makes great group work in Maths!

Can you think of any other ways that would help you work well in a group?

Blog of the Week: Basic Fact Champion: Zane

During the last weeks of Term 3, students in Room 2's Maths class have been using XtraMaths. For one of their rotations, they work against the clock and challenge themselves to answer basic fact questions quickly and accurately.

Zane was in the first group of students to get certificates this week after proving his mastery of ADDITION and SUBTRACTION basic facts in 6 seconds or less -  an awesome effort Zane!

Blog of the Week: NEVAEH - Co-ordinate Graphs

Task Description: This is the task we have been working on by using co-ordinates and X axis and Y axis.  As you could see that the shape is a Easter egg but we didn't just draw it like that, we had a sheet that had co-ordinates on and we had to plot the points on where the number says.  Then after plotting the lines we had to connect the dots and it will make the shape of a Easter egg.

Blog of the Week: KING, CALEB - DATA DETECTIVES:Which graph is best?

Room 2's Maths class were practising being DATA DETECTIVES by helping Mr Vogt to figure out when would be the best time to plant shrubs by checking the weather forecast for the next week.

Check out King and Caleb's explanation and their decisions about which graph to use to support their answers. Which graph do YOU think best shows the temperature data?

This our graph bar and line graph that we used to answer a question about Mr Vogt and his precious little Shrubs. Over the week, we had to pick the best days to plant his delicate shrubs, it needed to be above 20 degrees celsius in the day, and it needed to be not hotter than 11 degrees celsius overnight. He is not available on the weekends. Here is our bar chart, If it goes over 20 it good and if it’s 11 degrees or lower it is good. And if it goes lower than 20 or higher than 11, it’s not good.

The next graph we did was the line graph. Another person in our class did a line graph, and it ended up pretty good. So we decided to try it out ourselves, and, as you can see, it worked out amazing. It shows the same information as the bar graph, but it shows the numbers more clearly. Here is our Line Graph.

What does 'good' group work in Maths look like?

In Maths this week we had fun finding out what 'good' group work looked like. In groups of four, we had to figure out what we needed to do to make sure everyone took part to complete a task successfully. Check out the photos and comments below:

WHAT DOES 'GOOD' GROUP WORK LOOK LIKE?

Helping them if they don't know

Blog of the Week: SHEALES - 3D Shapes (Screencastify)

Check out a post this week from Sheales - scroll to the last slide and listen to her describe properties of different 3D shapes. To see more of her work, click here.

WALT  identify and describe 3D shapes
For the past 2 weeks or so we have been learning about 3D shapes. We also have been learning about how many edges faces and vertices they have. If you look through my presentation you will see my 3d shapes and you will also see how many vertices faces and edges they have I also have made a screencastify about it. Enjoy!

Blog of the week: Kerstein - Statistics - Graphs

Walt: Identify and interpret different graphs

I learnt how to do a line graph by hand is was so amazing in my presentation you will see my picture I took of my line graph. I have leanrt that there is other graphs like: Line graph, Leaf and steam graph, Pie chart, Bar graph and Pictograph obviously Line graph.
