Year 8 Graduation - 2020!

After a fun day for Team 5 at Swimarama, the Year 8s made it back to school along with their whanau for our last big event for the year - Year 8 Graduation 2020!

It was a special celebration with speeches from our prefects, rangatahi leaders, Mrs Tele'a, Mrs Samuels and Mr Burt.

Check out the video below from Mrs Lagitupu for some highlights!

Sonnia and Paschal looked amazing and did a lovely job of introducing Ms. Tapuke - what a fabulous turnout of Year 8s from our Room 2 whanau for 2020!

Arts Alive: Room 2 Protestors - Our Final Sculptures!

OUR ART CHALLENGE:

To create a sculpture, in the style of Alberto Giacometti. Each person's figure would represent a protestor supporting a cause or issue that was important to them.

Check out the poster below made by Maddy, Nesi, Nevaeh and Sonnia that shows the steps we took to make our Giacometti style protestors:

We made a lot of mess - with paint and plaster all over the desks, the floors, the walls, our uniforms and ourselves (a big SORRY to our awesome cleaners and our parents!) but... we had a lot of fun getting creative and finding out that we ALL had some pretty cool art skills! See our Room 2 whanau artists in action!

Here is Room 2's final Arts Alive exhibition display:

Blogger of the Week: SONNIA - Great group work in Maths

This week in Math's, Sonnia had fun competing against her classmates - working in a group, she had to try and find as many numbers as possible between 1 and 100. Each group had 3 rounds to improve their score. Each round was 3 minutes long.

Afterwards, all the groups had to think about all the things they did that helped them to work well together. Check out this poster by Sonnia to share tips on what makes great group work in Maths!

Can you think of any other ways that would help you work well in a group?

Ready to Learn - Summer Learning Journey

This week in our school assembly we got the chance to celebrate all the students from Pt England who took part in the Summer Learning Journey (SLJ) o for 2018/19. Congratulations to our Room 2 students, Filipe, Lucy, Sonnia, Nasibah, Maanas and Arthur.  Sonnia got a special mention for a spot prize (What IS in that brown paper bag?)

This group of Year 7 and Year 8s arrived at school in Term 1 ready to learn - all the blog writing and commenting that they did over the break has really helped keep their brains in good shape! Did anyone from your class/school take part in the SLJ? Did anyone win one of the cool prizes?
