Blog of the Week: MAMAREI - Polyfest 2019

Have you ever been to Polyfest?? Well, On the 13th of March our whole

of team 5 got a chance to go to Polyfest.

Polyfest is a Pacific event held in Manukau, near A.U.T (Auckland University
Technology).

Polyfest is a place for kids to show other people who they are,
where they came from and what their heritage is.

For Polyfest a whole bunch of other schools were invited to this amazing event.

We had to pay $10 for the bus and for us to get in. We were
put in groups with parent helpers and teachers.

My mum and one of my aunts were one of the helpers. Me, my two older cousins,

my niece and my niece's friend were in a group together with my mum.

This is my visual mihi. In the top left corner is my culture. I am European, cook island, and Maori. In the bottom left corner, is my favorite sport, Netball. In the top Right corner represents my family, my family comes first before anything. Last but not least, is god, and the holy bible.

Kia pai te kotahi - Better together

Welcome back to 2019! The theme for us at Pt England School this year is Kia pai te kotahi - Better together.

Students from Team 5 had the chance to carry this theme into action by helping out our amazing sports teacher, Ms. Va'afusuaga on Friday afternoon. This weekend is the annual Weetbix Tryathalon that is hosted by Pt England School at Pt England Reserve. A bunch of Year 7 and Year 8 students from Room 2 worked hard in the hot sun to get all the sponsors signs up in ONE HOUR!  Awesome proof that we really do work BETTER TOGETHER! KIA PAI TE KOTAHI!

Ready to Learn - Summer Learning Journey

This week in our school assembly we got the chance to celebrate all the students from Pt England who took part in the Summer Learning Journey (SLJ) o for 2018/19. Congratulations to our Room 2 students, Filipe, Lucy, Sonnia, Nasibah, Maanas and Arthur.  Sonnia got a special mention for a spot prize (What IS in that brown paper bag?)

This group of Year 7 and Year 8s arrived at school in Term 1 ready to learn - all the blog writing and commenting that they did over the break has really helped keep their brains in good shape! Did anyone from your class/school take part in the SLJ? Did anyone win one of the cool prizes? 

Blog of the Week: LEONE- Self Portrait using micrography

Our inquiry topic in Team 5 this term is Ko Wai Au? Who am I? Students in Room 2 used a style of graphic design called micrography. The meaning is from two words:  micro = small, graphy = writing.

Leone explains in his blog post how he created a super cool picture of himself using words. Give it a try and let us know how your own self-portrait turned out!

Nau Mai Haere Mai - Welcome to 2019!

Kia Ora! Malo e lelei! Bula Vinaka! Talofa lava! Kia Orana! Namaste! Welcome to Room 2 on Day 2 of the new school year. We have spent the last couple of days getting to know a whole bunch of new faces in our home class - we're going to have an awesome year! Last day of School!

It's our last day of school for 2018 and we had some time in our home class this morning to say farewell to the Year 8s who are off to High School next year. There was a mixture of sadness, laughter, tiredness and excitement. 

From all the students in Room 2, thanks for visiting our class blog and sharing in our learning journey in 2018 - we wish you a very relaxing, happy and safe holiday break.
